BED & BREAKFAST
Isle of Skye
A warm welcome from Linda and Ali awaits you at Solas Bed & Breakfast, our home, which is situated in the crofting village of Kensaleyre, on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north east of the Isle of Skye.
Solas is an adults only bed and breakfast, located adjacent to Loch Snizort Beag on the main A87 road running from Portree, the islands capital, to Uig, in the north of the island.
Our location provides you with stunning views of both the loch and countryside. The sunsets are quite spectacular and we believe the best you will ever see!!!! (Weather dependant obviously!!)
We are ideally and conveniently situated if you are travelling either to or from the Outer Hebrides/Western Isles with Caledonian Macbrayne (CalMac) Ferries as their terminal is located in the village of Uig, approximately fifteen minutes’ drive from Solas.
We look forward to welcoming you to Solas, and hope your stay here with us will add enjoyment to your holiday or visit to our beautiful island.
We started 2017 with a crazy idea of selling our home in Hampshire, with a view to us being able to spend more time together and have a better quality of life, away from the congestion and ever increasing building on the south coast of England. We also wanted to realise our dream of running a small bed and breakfast business.
However first and foremost we wanted a home and a place where we wanted to live.
Our house hunting brought us to Scotland with neither of us having ever been to the Isle of Skye before – as soon as we drove over “The Bridge” we both fell in love with the landscape and dramatic scenery and decided this was the place for us.
After seeing Solas, and its spectacular location our minds were made up and a few months later we moved here.
Solas has two well-appointed en-suite guestrooms. They are double rooms located on the first floor.
The rooms are bright and spacious and have;
A comfortable king size bed.
En-suite bathroom with walk in shower .
Complimentary toiletries including the use of a hairdryer
Tea and coffee making facilities
32" LED Flatscreen TV with Freeview
My boyfriend and I had the best time at Solas! The house is perfectly located, between all the stunning spots on Skye.
Linda and Ali made us feel very welcome, helped us find the best routes and provided us with a room that couldn't be more cosy and comfortable.
Thanks again Linda and Ali.
See you next time!

Solas is located in the main A87 route between Portree, the capital of the island, and Uig in the north. This road is a single carriageway with two lanes, one going in each direction.
BY ROAD -Travelling from Kyle of Lochalsh you will already be on the A87. After you cross over the bridge to Skye, turn right at the roundabout and continue to follow the A87 north, which is signposted for Portree. As you enter Portree, you will see the Portree High School on the left hand side, turn left here again follow the A87 now signposted for Uig. Stay on the A87 and after approximately 6 miles you will get your first glimpse of Loch Snizort Beag, as you go down the slight incline you will see the village sign for Kensaleyre. On your left hand side you will see the distinctive white church (you can’t miss it) – Solas is the second house on the RIGHT hand side past the church. Look for the brown wooden fence and cattle grid which is the entrance to our driveway. There is ample off road private parking here for your car.
BY FERRY - Travelling to Skye from either Lochmaddy or Tarbert in the Western Isles, you will arrive at Uig in the north west of the island. As you leave the ferry terminal follow the signs for the A87 signposted for Portree, stay on this road and after approximately 8 miles you will pass the sign for the village of Kensaleyre, and continue on through the village until you see the distinctive white church in front of you, on your right hand side. Just prior to this you will see a grass bank with a wooden fence and a cattle grid which is the entrance to our driveway. There is ample off road private parking for your vehicle.
BY FERRY - Travelling from Mallaig on the mainland you will arrive at Armadale at the southern end of the Isle of Skye. As you leave the ferry terminal turn right onto the main road, the A851 signposted for Broadford and Portree and follow this until you come to the junction with the A87. Turn left here continue on the A87 signposted for Portree. PLEASE NOTE - In the winter the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale only sails twice daily Monday to Friday with NO SERVICE at weekends. There are more ferry sailings during the summer months however, we would always advise that if you wish to use the ferry that you contact Calmac and book in advance to avoid an additional lengthy journey
